Bayern joins the battle for Wiltz

Bayern have reportedly officially entered the Wiltz race and could intercept Barcelona to take the talented Leverkusen player.

Barcelona have previously been keeping tabs on Wiltz, placing him on their list of potential transfers, with other targets including Arthur Vermeulen (Antwerp) and Alan Barrera (Porto). It should be emphasized that Wiltz is an integral part of Leverkusen manager Alonso's starting lineup.

Although Wiltz specializes in operating on the left flank or as a front man, he can also contribute to top performances in many different positions due to his versatility and flexibility. At Leverkusen, Wiltz was often deployed as a 'No. 10' in a 4-2-3-1 formation by manager Xabi Alonso. The 20-year-old's skill set is attractive to the European giants, especially Barcelona.

Statistics show that Wiltz has shown explosive form since the start of the 2023/24 season, having been involved in seven goals (three goals and four assists) in 10 appearances for Leverkusen. The 20-year-old midfielder has made 113 appearances for Leverkusen since 2020 so far, scoring a total of 26 goals and contributing 34 assists.

This is why Barcelona are determined to bring in the German attacking midfielder. However, Barca's hopes may have been dashed when news broke out in Germany that Bayern also wanted to bring Wiltz to the Allianz Arena.

Bayern are looking to form a formidable attacking duo with Wiltz and Musiala. The duo started in Germany's recent 3-1 win over the United States. Wiltz and Musiala are both just 20 years old and are expected to be a big part of Bayern for many years to come.

With Leverkusen looking to retain one of the team's most valuable players, Bayern is expected to make an offer worth around €100 million for Wiltz. Such a price tag would be difficult for financially strapped Barcelona to afford.
